Building Blocks of Decency: Activities
To reinforce the understanding of decency, respect, kindness, empathy, and other essential life skills learned in the YouTube videos. This game also encourages communication, decision-making, and promotes a sense of community involvement.
Materials Needed:
- A small notebook (Decency Detective Journal) for each child.
- Pens or pencils.
- A printed or drawn “Decency Badge” for each child.
- Stickers or stamps (optional, for rewards).
- A small box or jar (Decency Acts Box).
How to Play:
- Introduction: Explain to the children that they are going to become "Decency Detectives". Their mission is to spot and record acts of decency, kindness, respect, and empathy in their daily life. This could involve family members, friends, neighbors, or even characters from books or TV shows.
- Decency Badge: Give each child their "Decency Badge" and explain that this is their official detective badge. They should wear it when they are on the lookout for acts of decency.
- Decency Detective Journal: Provide each child with a Decency Detective Journal. This is where they will record the acts of decency they observe. They should note down who performed the act, what they did, and why they think it was an act of decency.
- Decency Acts Box: Introduce the Decency Acts Box. Each day, children should write down one significant act of decency they've observed on a small piece of paper and place it in the box. At the end of the week, the family can gather and read the notes together.
- Reward System: You could introduce a reward system where children receive a sticker or stamp in their Decency Detective Journal for each act of decency they record. This can motivate them to actively seek out acts of decency and can also serve as a visual reminder of all the good they have noticed.
This game helps children to recognize and understand acts of decency in a practical, real-life context. It encourages them to reflect on what they have learned and apply it to their daily life. By noting down these acts, they are reinforcing their understanding and awareness of essential life skills. It promotes active participation, effective communication, and thoughtful decision-making. Moreover, by reading the notes as a family, it fosters a sense of community and encourages discussions about decency, respect, empathy, and kindness. This shared experience can also help children feel more connected and involved in their community, highlighting the importance of positive contributions.
